Solar Panels matter, but they don't matter as much as people think they do. Let's add some clarity to this statement.
The job of a solar panel is to produce energy that is used to power your home. So, what's important is that it generates the energy needed to power your home. The warranty offered is also important because that will be your "black and white" protection down the road should you ever need repairs. Whether you have a "top tier" panel or one a few notches below, as long as it produces the energy that your home needs, you'll never notice the difference. Your lights, your AC, your smart home products, and whatever else is plugged in; will all look and function the same. So, if your top tier panel costs more than your panel a few notches below, but they come with the same warranty; what are you paying more for if you get the same electricity?
If you watch the video above with Joe from Solar Surge, he offers good information and he has a respected opinion. Keep in mind that he's also paid to advertise so there is monetary motivation. This is not to say that he's selling you lies, but just keep in mind that he is paid for his opinions.
Think about it for a second. What really makes one solar panel better than another? If you want to support American Made panels, we understand. If you don't want to buy products made in China, we understand. But when it comes to evaluating solar panels, they aren't like other technology from a results standpoint.
Let's compare automobiles for some perspective. A Tesla can drive itself, pin you back in your seat, saves you money on fuel, and doesn't require maintenance. This is much different than a six-cylinder SUV that will eat up fuel, run sluggish up hills, and requires costly maintenance over time. Both products offer a very different experience.
Solar panels don't have different results the way automobiles, smart phones, and other technology might. It's purely how long they are warrantied and how much energy will they produce. If it's an extra $5,000 for a thirty-year warranty panel than a twenty-five-year warranty panel, does it make sense to pay an extra $5,000 for something that won't benefit you until year twenty-six? For some it might, but for most it's overkill.
When it comes to panels, get monocrystalline panels, get a 25-year performance and product warranty, and make sure they generate enough kilowatt hours per year to power your home. Solar Panels matter, but there is such a thing as unnecessary added costs.
