Solar warranties are widely misunderstood.  Homeowners are often told that they are getting a twenty-five year warranty or even as much as 30 years.  In most cases those warranties are just for linear performance.  This means that the solar panel is going to produce energy during that period.  The problem is that just producing energy isn't all that's necessary.  Let's say your car still fires up and the engine runs, how helpful is that if your transmission doesn't work?  Your solar system needs to do more than just generate energy.  You need it to convert the direct current energy into alternating current and then send it to your home for power.  

This is why your inverter warranty is just as important as your solar panel warranty.  In many cases, homeowners receive a twenty-five year panel warranty with only a twelve-year inverter warranty.  In some cases, they'll purchase an extended inverter warranty though the installer or manufacturer, but what happens if they go out of business?  One of the largest installers for years, Titan Solar Power, regularly sold extended Solar Edge Inverter warranties, and now Titan is no longer in business.
